Hospitality Industry

Welcome to LodgingGuide's hospitality industry listings for the Jefferson City - Columbia, Missouri area.

Unlike metropolitan areas beset with downtown skyscraper fever, Jefferson City makes a point of being different, instead showcasing the gleaming dome of its state Capitol Building. Peering above treetops from every compass point, the dome signifies what’s one-of-a-kind special in Missouri. Lewis & Clark paddled by nearby bluffs in the early 1800s, and Daniel Boone’s son was a city planner here. In Civil War times, both the Confederacy and the Union fought for a foothold where the mighty Missouri, America's longest river flows through town. Outdoors attractions nearby include the Katy Trail Hiking / Biking State Park, and the Runge Nature Center, with miles of hiking and a 60-foot tower for panoramic views. Cultural arts offerings range from the Jefferson City Symphony to the Little Theater, Stained Glass Theatre, and Scene One. The state’s First Family allows free tours of their home with reservations. Other attractions include Carnahan Memorial Gardens, Cole County Historical Museum, and the Missouri Veterans Memorial. The Missouri Veterinary Museum, the nation’s only such facility devoted solely to animal medicine, displays what’s been found in cow stomachs and manuscripts on horse care. Regional attractions include the Churchill Memorial commemorating the British warrior’s “Iron Curtain” speech on the campus of Westminster College in Fulton. South of Jefferson City is the Lake of the Ozarks, one of America’s largest man-made bodies of water. To the north, Columbia, home of the University of Missouri, has an eclectic mix of restaurants, shops, art galleries, music venues, sporting events, and historic architecture. Whether it’s morning coffee or nocturnal martinis, what’s known as The District, with historic architecture, sidewalk cafés, and retail shops, is the place to see and be seen in this college town. For anyone in need of medical care, Columbia also is known to have one of the highest hospital bed ratios per capita in the nation.
